DIY: Christmas Bottles Full of Christmas Light
The other day, I wrote about attempting to drill through glass and I finished up the project this weekend. I think it turned out beautifully — I love the idea of bottled light!
These would be pretty by a wintery window or under an entry table. I like the way the gold paint makes the bottom of the bottles look misty and glow-y, even during the daytime.
. We had the hardest time finding lights like this. We went to 4 stores, but they all carried only end-to-end lights (which are the kind I prefer for my Christmas tree). Finally, I tried to think of who might carry old-school Christmas lights and Big Lots came to mind — because they often carry items from last season. Hooray! They had just what we needed.
And that’s it! A very satisfying project and a fun addition to our holiday decor. Though really, these don’t have to be holiday at all. We could use these for any sort of event where we want a little glow-y light happening. Maybe we need to have a party where bottled light is the theme. : )

Outdoor Christmas Lighting Tips
DIY Network’s licensed electrician James Young shares tips and tricks for installing outdoor Christmas lighting properly so your joy lasts the whole season.
Use a good ladder when installing your lights. Secure them with insulated holders (never use tacks or nails). Don’t install your lights on trees that come in contact with power lines. Before installing your Christmas lights, plug them in to make sure all of your bulbs are working. Make sure to turn your lights off when you leave or go to bed at night.
Outdoor Holiday Lighting Ideas
In preparation of the big day around here, I thought I would share a few outdoor lighting ideas and tips that we did last year…. since we take lighting pretty seriously around here.
I love the lighted icicles hanging from the house They are a pain to unravel but once there up, I just glow from excitement….or it may be from the lights. To make hanging the outdoor lights on the house easier each year, we installed little hooks in the trim that we keep up all the time. It makes the hanging process go so much quicker, and hubby is happy to as he goes up and down the ladder hanging each section of lights.
My backyard is as bright as the front yard with lights. I like to use net lighting in my shrubs. If you need several strands of lights, make sure you follow the recommendations on the package of how many you can safely plug into each other.
If you have left over lights, lay them on the ground along a walk way, landscape border or driveway for extra impact. These were extra strands of icicles that we did not use. I just laid them along the bricks.
A timer can save on time and money if you are putting up outdoor lighting. Just program the time that you want you lights to turn on each day and what time you want them to shut off.
Very pretty! I bet your kids DO love the lighted arches over the driveway! We don’t hang lights on our house except on greenery. We use spot lights at night. There are so many fun way to decorate with lights this time of year.
